The Financial Times declared Lakshmi Mittal was their person of the year. Go to http://www.ft.com/indepth/person for an in depth look at the accomplishments of this steel magnate, the fifth richest person in the world according to Forbes.
I found his down-to-earth personality which comes across during his interviews quite fascinating.

Toyota poised to become the world's largest carmaker
Toyota plans to make 9.42 million cars in 2007 that will make it the world's largest carmaker. General Motors, the current leader plans to make 9.11 million cars in 2007.
Considering the circumstances under which the Japanese automakers started selling cars in the U.S. a few decades ago: the story goes like this... back in the days, the U.S. market was dominated by American cars, GM, Ford, Chrysler were the Big 3. The Japanese carmakers felt they needed to expand, they didn't have a presence in the U.S. Finally, an exclusively U.S. automobile dealer let a Japanese manufacturer display couple cars in a low traffic area on their lot... the rest is history!
Is the same game being played out with the South Koreans?

A tornado hits London
I woke up the day before yesterday morning, and got ready to go to work. As usual, I checked my Blackberry for new messages, and there it was, a message from Phil (my friend and colleague from North England), it said, "What is happening to London weather?" and there was an accompanying link showing images of what happened after the tornado hit London: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/6217898.stm
I have never heard of a tornado ever hitting London. It sounds freakish. So do some other natural disasters. I have been hearing and reading an awful lot about earthquakes, hurricanes, droughts, and tsumanis off late than I ever did before. So, while I was on the BBC web site I decided to look around. I found an interesting page which addresses climate change: http://www.bbc.co.uk/climate/
It talks about the Evidence > Impacts > Adaptation > Policies of climate change and is quite revealing of what could happen if we didn't care for our environment. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change: 'most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is likely to be attributable to human activities'. Now that is within our circle of influence and therefore fixable!

Web 2.0
The Web 2.0 technology seems to have a lot of promise. O'Reilly Media
coined the phrase. But essentially for business people what it means
is richer interaction as you use the web to browse sites. It is almost
like having your own PC sitting on the 'net, which is the conceptual
idea behind http://Desktoptwo.com
